Czech President Milos Zeman wants to make it easier for citizens to obtain guns in order to protect themselves from terrorists.
Repeated terror attacks in Belgium, France and Germany has put European countries on high alert. The best way to ensure safety for the people, according to Zeman, is to make it easier for people to [url=http://www.blesk.cz/clanek/zpravy-politika/408864/expert-kara-napad-zemana-mit-v-mnichove-vsichni-lide-zbrane-postrili-se.html]obtain gun permits.
“Earlier I spoke against possession of large amounts of weapons [in the hands of the people],” Zeman said in a recent interview with newspaper Blesk. “After those attacks, I do not think so any more.”
Zeman further urged people who already own guns to start carrying them outside their homes.
The recent wave of terror has boosted gun sales in many European countries.
“The demand for pistols, revolvers and pump-action guns rose by 30 percent to 50 percent after this month’s attacks in Nice and Munich,” a Swiss gun store owner said in a recent interview with USA Today.
The European Union, on the other hand, wants to restrict people’s accessibility to guns further to make sure “the risk of legal firearms fining their way to the illegal market is reduced,” according to Dutch Justice Minister Ard van der Steur.
